Seminars on IT

A collection of interesting seminars, presentations and lectures from various institutions.

1. The World is Flat - May 2005
Thomas Friedman describes the unplanned cascade of technological and social shifts that effectively leveled the economic world, and "accidentally made Beijing, Bangalore and Bethesda next-door neighbors." Today, "individuals and small groups of every color of the rainbow will be able to plug and play." Friedman’s list of "flatteners" includes the fall of the Berlin Wall; the rise of Netscape and the dotcom boom that led to a trillion dollar investment in fiber optic cable; the emergence of common software platforms and open source code enabling global collaboration; and the rise of outsourcing, offshoring, supply chaining and insourcing.

2. The World is Flat 3.0 - Nov 2007
Back in 2000, Thomas Friedman recounts, the world began to shrink and flatten, under the influence of digital interconnectivity. Elaborating on his World is Flat thesis, Friedman describes how this new global order puts creative, entrepreneurial individuals in the driver’s seat, and poses distinct new challenges and opportunities.

3. The thrilling potential of SixthSense technology
Pranav Mistry is the inventor of SixthSense, a wearable device that enables new interactions between the real world and the world of data. At TEDIndia, Pranav Mistry demos several tools that help the physical world interact with the world of data -- including a deep look at his SixthSense device and a new, paradigm-shifting paper "laptop." In an onstage Q&A, Mistry says he'll open-source the software behind SixthSense, to open its possibilities to all.
